FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the visitor experience, content creation, data and support.
For your visitors
Do visitors need to install an app?
No. The guide opens in the phone’s browser after scanning a QR code or clicking a link. It can then be added to the home screen like an app, but this is optional.
Do visitors need to create an account to listen to a tour?
No. The tour is anonymous: no name, email address or password is required. Progress and favorites are saved on the visitor’s phone.
Does the guide work without an internet connection?
Yes. Visitors can download a complete tour (pages, voices, images and ambient sounds) before setting off, then listen without a network connection. This is especially useful on trails and in buildings with poor coverage.
Does the map work without a signal?
Partly. The phone’s GPS works without a signal: stops are still suggested on arrival and downloaded audio plays normally. Map backgrounds, however, are not part of the download: only areas already displayed while connected remain visible. Tip: open the tour map once before setting off.
How big is a downloaded tour, and what about battery life?
Allow about 1 MB per minute of audio, plus images: a tour of eight two-minute stops weighs around 20 MB per language. Listening works with the screen locked. GPS uses more battery; it only switches on if the visitor asks for it.
Which phones are compatible?
Recent iOS and Android smartphones with common browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge). The guide also works on tablets and computers.
Is the guide accessible to people who are hard of hearing?
Every narration has a full transcript highlighted as it plays, and synchronized timeline text presents key information. Playback speed can be adjusted from 0.75× to 1.5×.
What languages can the guide be offered in?
In nine languages: French, German, Italian, English, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese. The guide opens in the phone’s language, and visitors can change it at any time. You choose which languages to publish.
Content creation
Who writes the content?
You do, with AI help if you wish: the studio estimates the length of each text, gives tips on writing for the ear and translates your stops. On request, we can help with writing and proofreading.
Do I need technical skills to create a tour?
No. The studio works like a word processor: write your stops, add images and drag and drop markers onto the timeline. A live preview shows how it looks on a phone.
How are voice-overs created?
You can generate a voice-over from your text using a natural-sounding synthetic voice, or import your own recordings (actor, guide or local resident). Both can be combined in the same tour.
How does translation work?
The studio uses AI to translate your texts from your working language, then generates a voiceover in each language. We always recommend having a native speaker review the translations before publication. Every text remains editable.
Are the German voices in Swiss German?
The synthetic voices speak Standard German and the texts follow Swiss spelling (“ss” rather than “ß”). For a local touch, upload your own recordings, in dialect for example: they replace the synthetic voice stop by stop.
Can content be reviewed before it is published?
Yes. A tour stays in draft until you publish it, and the preview lets you listen to it like a visitor. With the review workflow, an editor requests a review, then an administrator publishes the tour or sends it back with a comment.
Can we add music and videos?
Yes. Ambient sound can accompany an entire tour or a single stop, underneath the narration. Text, images and videos (YouTube or Vimeo) can appear at a specific point in the audio.
Can we create outdoor tours with GPS?
Yes. Each stop can be placed on a map with a trigger radius. Visitors can see nearby stops, and the guide suggests the stop they’ve just reached if they’ve allowed location access.
What happens if I edit a text after generating the voiceover?
The studio flags the voice as “needs regenerating” in each language concerned. An “Update all” button regenerates outdated voices and translates missing languages for a whole tour in one go. An existing translation is rerun stop by stop in the studio, so your proofreading is never overwritten.
Can we test a GPS tour without going there?
Yes. Test mode displays the tour map and lets you tap a point to simulate the visitor’s position. You can check from your desk that each stop triggers in the right place.
Can I change the destination of a QR code that’s already been printed?
Yes. QR codes are dynamic: the printed code stays the same, and you can choose where it leads at any time (a route, a stop, a point of interest or a web page). Each code has its own scan statistics.
How can we tell where our visitors come from?
Statistics show the arrival channel for each visit (QR code, direct access, search engine, social media, referring site or campaign). Add UTM parameters to your links to measure the performance of a poster, newsletter or post.
Data, hosting and security
Where is the data hosted?
The platform is hosted in Switzerland. Your tour content and statistics remain on servers located in Switzerland.
What visitor data is collected?
Only anonymous usage statistics: pages viewed, listens, language, device type, access channel and QR code scans, linked to a random identifier. No IP addresses or personally identifiable data are stored, and GPS location stays on the visitor’s phone.
Does the guide rely on third-party services?
No advertising or third-party analytics tools. The map shows OpenStreetMap tiles, loaded from their servers. YouTube videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and Vimeo videos through their official player. If you choose a typeface other than the default, it is served by Bunny Fonts, a European service.
Do you provide a data processing agreement?
Yes, on request, with the list of subprocessors and the countries involved. The “Procurement and data” page brings together what your IT department needs and a printable brief for your decision-makers.
Does the platform comply with the nLPD?
The platform is designed in line with the principles of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nLPD): data minimisation, visits without an account and transparency about processors, as detailed in our privacy policy.
Can we add our own analytics tool?
Yes. Administrators can add code (Matomo, Google Tag Manager, a pixel or a chat widget) for the entire guide or a single tour. A page-view event is provided for analytics tools. Remember visitor consent: you are responsible for these tools.
Which artificial intelligence services are used?
Everything goes through OpenRouter: translation, voiceovers with Voxtral by Mistral AI (France), and ambient music with Lyria by Google. Only your tour texts and music descriptions are sent when you start generation; no visitor data is sent.
Project and support
Can we use our own domain name?
Yes. Each guide has a subdomain and can be hosted on your own domain, such as visite.ma-commune.ch. A step-by-step guide shows you which DNS record to create and checks the configuration in one click; we can also handle it with your IT provider.
Can several people work on our tours?
Yes. Invite your colleagues and assign them a role: owner, administrator or editor. A single account can also manage multiple organizations, such as a municipality and its tourist office.
Can we manage our tours with an AI assistant?
Yes. The platform offers an MCP server: connect Claude or another compatible assistant using a personal key, and ask it to create a stop, translate a tour or summarize your statistics. It acts with your permissions, and each key can be revoked at any time.
Can statistics be exported for a report?
Yes. Statistics can be exported as CSV, for a spreadsheet, and as PDF, by period and by tour: handy for a report to your council, the canton or your funders.
How many tours and languages can I create?
The number of tours, stops and languages depends on your project. Tell us what you need and we’ll suggest a plan that fits.
Can you help us write the content?
Yes, we can help you structure your tours, write texts suited to listening and prepare your QR codes. Let’s talk about it during a demo.
Can’t find your answer?
Write to us, and we’ll get back to you quickly.
